Laura Hillenbrand is an American author of Unbroken, she also made other magazines and more books. Some of her books have sold over 13 million copies which is a quite significant amount (Biography). She was born in Fairfax, Virginia and she was the youngest out of her 4 siblings. Laura currently suffers with a condition called chronic fatigue syndrome and she was diagnosed at the age of 19, before the diagnosis she was a tennis player and played other sports. She studied at Kenyon College until her sickness forced her to opt out of the education she was receiving. The sickness made her have to stay home a lot which introduced writing to her as a fun hobby to do. She married a man named Borden Flanagan which is a professor of government at American University which was also her college crush. When she was 10 years old she was on the swim team, and while waiting for extra time to pass her coach would tell stories which really made Laura Hillenbrand get into reading and writing even at a very very young age. In Junior high school Laura had written a drawer full of different stories which shaped her for the big books that have taken off in today's day and age. In 2004 Laura won the National Magazine award for her article called "A sudden illness" which was based off her life and how her illness caused her to loose many things, yet gain things. Based on 75 phone interviews she created a book called "Unbroken" which really took off because it showed Louis Zamperini's life in his own perspective based on actual facts. Today she continue's to write stories for big time companies and also has received many Oscars for her hard work and determination.
